Join us for a relaxing afternoon of drawing and creativity with Edinburgh-based artist Tess Glen in the beautiful surroundings of Dr Neil's Garden, often described as "Edinburgh's Secret Garden." A place of peace, tranquillity, and inspiration, it's the perfect setting to slow down, observe, and create.
Together, we'll explore a range of playful and accessible drawing exercises designed to help you loosen up, build confidence, and see the world in new ways. Tess will guide us through techniques including line drawing, experimenting with different materials, observational sketching, and even drawing with your non-dominant hand to encourage a more intuitive approach to mark-making.
All materials will be provided, and the session is completely beginner-friendly—no previous drawing experience is needed. Whether you're picking up a pencil for the first time or looking to refresh your creative practice, this workshop is all about enjoying the process rather than striving for perfection.
We've booked the charming Potting Shed, which overlooks the garden and provides a cosy, sheltered space should the weather turn. If the sun is shining, we'll also have the opportunity to draw amongst the garden's winding paths, hidden corners, and beautiful seasonal planting.
About Tess Glen
Tess Glen is an artist based in Edinburgh and graduated with a First Class BA from Edinburgh College of Art in 2017. She is a tutor on the Young Artists Programme with The Royal Drawing School and at Birchwood Art Studios.
Working across painting, drawing, writing, and bookmaking, Tess explores the psychological atmospheres of everyday life, often weaving humour and absurdity into her work. Her thoughtful and encouraging teaching style makes this workshop a wonderful opportunity to experiment, learn, and reconnect with your creativity in a truly inspiring setting.
